Easyfix Easyglaze – Stick & Clip Insulation
Easyglaze is a two-part self adhesive glazing system that provides heat and noise insulation using 2mm thick plastic glazing sheet. The base section comes with adhesive tape applied and is stuck to the window surround. The glazing sheet is placed within this frame and a protective cover strip then clips into place to hold the sheet securely and provide a thermal seal. The Easyglaze lengths can be easily mitred, using a Mitre Block and inserting the supplied mitre bead while cutting, result in a neat overall finish.
Glass is not suitable for use with this product because of the danger of breakage when fitting the cover strips.
Tools required to fit the Easyglaze system are a fine-toothed saw, mitre block, tape measure and a pencil.
In summary, a cost effective self adhesive secondary glazing system that provides effective heat and noise insulation.
Easyglaze is available in 2.44m or 1.22m lengths in White only and are either sold individually or in bulk packs of 10 lengths. The lengths come with the tape applied, along with Mitre Beads for each length to insert into the edging when cutting to avoid chipping and help achieve a neat mitre.
- Measure the window frame between the inside edges of the flat area of frame where the Easyglaze will be applied (vertical = A, horizontal = B), ensuring at least 15mm mounting space on all sides.
- Add 12mm to both A & B to determine sheet size. This will create the required sheet overlap with the frame on all sides.
- For your Easyglaze lengths you will require 2 lengths at A + 25mm and 2 lengths at B + 25mm. Add these together to work out how many lengths of each size you need.
Tools required are a fine-toothed saw, mitre block, tape measure, scissors and a pencil.
- Clean and degrease the window frame using Easyfix® Surface Preparation Wipes.
- Snap the cover strip into the base section.
- Measure the side of the glazing pane and add 13mm and cut this length of Easyglaze squarely, repeat for all four sides.
- Insert the mitre bead and using the outer corner as reference cut a 45 degree mitre on each end using the mitre block and fine-toothed saw, repeat for all lengths.
- Now fit the Easyglaze to the edges of the panel.
- Hold the sheet to the window frame, ensuring equal overlap on all sides. An extra pair of hands will help here where possible.
- Trace around sheet with a pencil on the window frame.
- At this stage ensure that the window and frame is clean and dry.
- Remove the Easyglaze from the sheet and separate base and tops ensuring you keep them paired together.
- Fit the base sections neatly inside the pencil marks ensuring the mitred ends are aligned correctly. Easiest method is to peel a little of the liner back, position the strip and then press down into place peeling a little of the liner at a time rather than removing the whole strip.
- For optimal adhesion, leave the panel off overnight to give the adhesive best chance to bond properly before loading.
- Now all four base sections are fitted, offer the plastic glazing pane up within the frame. Then insert the top section beginning with the top, to help hold the pane in place while fitting the others. Tap the top section in at one end first then press along the length from there.
- Once all top sections are fitted the installation is complete.
Mitre blocks are available to purchase to help cut the 45-degree ends required for the picture frame finish.
Packing Strips are a self-adhesive plastic strip that can be fitted to the frame before the steel strip to raise the glazing sheet off the mounting surface a little further to help sit it proud of any protruding staff beads.
Surface Preparation Wipes can be used to clean and degrease any surfaces before sticking the tapes in place.
Antistatic Spray can be used to diffuse the static charge on the sheet when the films have been removed to help prevent the attraction of dust and particles from the air.
Microfibre cloths can be used to clean the sheets without scratching the glazing panels.
Filmglaze: Is a simple single season solution using a thermal film stuck over the window using double sided tape. The film is then heated to tighten to a clear finish providing cost effective insulation for the cold season.
Can I paint the tapes to match my current window colour?
Yes, you can paint the Easyglaze lengths as long as you use an appropriate paint.
Can I use thicker sheets with Easyglaze?
No, the system has been designed for 2mm plastic sheet only, any thicker would prevent the top snapping into position.
