Easyfix Magnetglaze Pro Extreme – large window insulation
The Magnetglaze Pro Extreme secondary glazing system is made up of a rigid PVC profile that clips over the edge of the glazing sheets. It combines the simplicity of a magnetic fixing with the ability to frame the glazing panes for a neater more professional finish. This Extreme version has 25mm wide magnetic and steel tape and provides a great option of magnetic glazing for larger windows. The larger magnets cope with larger/heavier sheets or strong draughts, as a result Magnetglaze Pro Extreme provides effective heat insulation and noise reduction at larger windows whilst, also allowing easy removal and access. Magnetglaze Pro Extreme can be used to fit plastic glazing panels of 4mm to 6mm thickness. As with all the magnetic glazing systems it is for internal use only and is not suitable for glass, skylights/overhead windows, or opening windows/doors.
For smaller windows, Magnetglaze Pro is available which uses the standard 13mm wide tapes. Magnetglaze Pro can be used with 2-4mm thick plastic panels making it a more cost-effective option where possible. Please contact us if you are unsure which is required.
If you have a large window or windows that require a join within the glazing panels there are Magnetglaze Sash Kits. This add on kit can be used alongside any of the magnetic fixing systems to joint 4mm sheets for easier handling and convenience.
Tools required to fit the Magnetglaze Pro Extreme system are a fine-toothed saw, large mitre block, tape measure, scissors and a pencil. The ends of each length can be cut to create mitred corners for a picture frame finish and securing a plastic glazing sheet to a window frame.
In summary, Magnetglaze Pro Extreme offers a cost effective, smart, magnetic secondary glazing option for large windows.
Magnetglaze Pro Extreme is available in White and Brown at 2440mm length only. These lengths are sold individually or in bulk packs of 6. The lengths come with both tapes applied along with Mitre beads for each length to insert into the edging when cutting to avoid chipping and help achieve a neat mitre.
- Measure the window area between where the inside edge of the steel strip will be applied (vertical = A, horizontal = B), ensuring at least 35mm mounting space on all sides.
- Add 55mm to both A & B to determine sheet size. This will create the required sheet overlap with the frame on all sides for the capping and tapes.
- For added support and making it easier to replace the glazing pane in alignment you can consider sizing the sheet so the bottom edge sits on the windowsill. The Pro Extreme capping will sit around 2mm outside the edge of the glazing sheet once fitted.
- For your Magnetglaze Pro Extreme lengths you will require 2 lengths at A + 65mm and 2 lengths at B + 65mm. Add these together to work out how many lengths of each size you need.
Tools required are a fine-toothed saw, large mitre block, tape measure, scissors and a pencil.
- Clean and degrease the window frame using Easyfix® Surface Preparation Wipes.
- Remove the white metal tape from the length of Magnetglaze Pro Extreme.
- Measure the side of the glazing pane and add 4mm and cut this length of Magnetglaze Pro squarely, repeat for all four sides.
- Insert the mitre bead and using the outer corner as reference cut a 45-degree mitre on each end using the large mitre block and fine-toothed saw, repeat for all lengths.
- Now fit the Magnetglaze Pro Extreme to the edges of the panel.
- Hold the sheet to the window frame, ensuring equal overlap on all sides. An extra pair of hands will help here where possible.
- Trace around the sheet with a pencil on the window frame.
- Apply the white metal strip just inside the pencil lines.
- For optimal adhesion, leave the panel off for 24 hours before regular use to give the adhesive best chance to bond properly before loading.
- Click the panel into place.
Magnetglaze Sash Kits allow conversion into multiple panels using a jointing strip that maintains the thermal seal (for 4mm sheets only).
Large mitre blocks are available to purchase to help cut the 45-degree ends required for the picture frame finish.
Packing Strips are a self-adhesive plastic strip that can be fitted to the frame before the steel strip to raise the glazing sheet off the mounting surface a little further to help sit it proud of any protruding staff beads. Ensure you order the 25mm wide options.
Surface Preparation Wipes can be used to clean and degrease any surfaces before sticking the tapes in place.
Antistatic Spray can be used to diffuse the static charge on the sheet when the films have been removed to help prevent the attraction of dust and particles from the air.
Microfibre cloths can be used to clean the sheets without scratching the glazing panels.
Magnetglaze Pro: works in the same way but uses 13mm magnetic tapes attached to a plastic capping that fits over the edge of the glazing panels for smaller windows.
Magnetglaze: Is a simple magnetic system that uses the same 13mm magnetic tapes attached directly onto the glazing panel and window frame.
Magnetglaze Extreme: A stronger version of Magnetglaze with wider 25.4mm tape for larger or draughtier windows.
Can I paint the tapes to match my current window colour?
Yes, you can paint both the Steel tape and the Finishing Trims to match your window as long as you use an appropriate paint.
Do the lengths come with the magnetic tapes applied or do I need to order the tapes as well?
The Magnetglaze Pro Extreme lengths have both the magnetic and steel tape applied so you do not need to purchase additional fixing tapes.
Do I actually need the Extreme version for my window?
If you are unsure whether your window requires the wider magnets please get in touch and ask as there are a number of factor including space available, size of window, how draughty the original window is. If you can send a picture via email that will help us.
